The Book of Joshua takes its name from the man who succeeded Moses as the leader of the Hebrew tribes - Joshua, the son of Nun, a member of the tribe of Ephraim. In post-biblical times Joshua himself was credited with being the author of the book, though internal evidence gives no such indication.
